Palak Paneer

Palak Paneer

One of the most popular vegetarian Indian dishes, Palak Paneer ranks among the moat served dishes in the Indian restaurants. Prepared with spinach and lightly roasted paneer, the dish is high in its nutritious value. It is also called as saag panner in different parts of the country and the saag can be different from spinach. Commonly grown saggs like mustard greens can also used in place of paneer.

Palak Paneer is favorite of the people in almost all over the sub continent and in Punjab in India, the sagg is usually taken with makai ki roti. (Roti prepared with maize flour).

Essential ingredients required for preparing Palak Paneer (for four persons) are

  • Spinach 1/2 kg
  • Paneer 100 grams
  • Onion 1 piece
  • Butter 3 tablespoon.
  • Bay leaves 2-3 pieces
  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon.
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper powder 1/4 tea spoon.
  • Ginger-garlic paste 3/4 tea spoon.
  • Green chilli paste 1/2 tea spoon.
  • Garam Masala Powder 1 tea spoon.
  • White oil



    Preparation of Palak Paneer is also very easy. Mix ginger garlic paste and chili paste with nicely washed spinach leaves and pressure cook it till its the time for the first whistle. Remove it from the stove and keep it aside. Heat white oil in a pan and fry the paneer cubes in deep oil but in medium heat till they are golden brown. Drain the fried cubes and keep them aside.

    Heat about two table spoons of butter in pan and heat it . Put two bay leaves and garam masala paste as well as some cumin seeds in the heated oil . Add the finely chopped onions and fry them till they are light brown. Add salt and a pinch of black pepper powder. Mix it well and cook it for two minutes. Add spinach paste and add the paneer cubes to it. Put palak paneer in baking tray and bake for half an hour at 180 degree centigrade. Serve it hot with freashly prepared puri or naan.
