Potato Bhaji

Potato Bhaji is one of the most commonly loved side dish in India. It is taken along with rice as well as well as puris and rotis. A favorite of people belonging to age groups, you will find Potato Bhaji served with meals in different parts of the India. It is also taken as snacks and is forms an integral part of chats prepared in India.

Many prefer Potato Bhajji as a side dish with masala dosa too. Its preparation can be varied a little. You can make it dry and crisp or make it little soft. To make it dry and crisp fry it in deep oil after soaking it for sometime in brine.

To prepare Potato Bhaji for 4 persons you require

  • 225 gm of potatoes
  • 85 gm of onions
  • a small bunch of coriander leaves
  • 10 gm of green chillies
  • 5 gm of tamarind
  • 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds
  • a pinch of asafoetida
  • 15 ml of coconut oil
  • 80-100 gm of salt to taste
  • a sprig of curry leaf



    Wash potatoes, boil and peel them. Cut into cubes according to the size you want. Add finely mashed tamarind pulp, green chillies cut into pieces and finely chopped onions and mix it well with the cubes. Heat oil in a pan . Add mustard seeds, asafoetida and curry leaves in the heated oil. Remove the pan from fire and add prepared potatoes to it. Add a little salt to taste. Sprinkle finely chopped coriander leaves. Serve it hot as a side dish with meals.
