South West Indian Style Salad

Indian salad which forms an integral part of Indian food is prepared in different ways in different parts of India. You will find North Indian Style Salads differing greatly from South Indian and South West Indian Style Salad. Salads in eastern and north eastern part of India vary greatly from that of the north and the southern style. South West Indian Style Salad is very easy to prepare and of course known for its great taste.

The essential ingredients you require for preparing South West Indian Style Salad are
  • Chopped pieces of fruits like pineapple, mango, apple, green or black grapes
  • A medium sized coconut freshly grated
  • 2 pieces of dry red chilies
  • a teaspoon of mustard seeds
  • Sugar to taste
  • Salt to taste

  • Method of preparation

    Add sugar to chopped fruits taken in a bowl and mix it well. Grind coconut with red chilies and a little water. Add mustard seeds during the last stage of grinding. Grind it for some time more so that the mustard seeds are crushed. Add salt to the coconut paste and mix them well. You can serve it cold or at room temperature.

    Another delicious South West Indian Style Salad is the potato salad.



    To make potato salad, you need

  • large potatoes, peeled and made into halves
  • white wine vinegar
  • a red bell pepper finely chopped
  • a green bell pepper finely chopped
  • a green onion chopped
  • whole-kernel corn
  • black olives sliced
  • fresh cilantro finely chopped

    Boil potatoes, drain water and cool them. Put the boiled potato in a large bowl and spread white wine vinegar on them. Mix it gently. Add the finely chopped peppers, green onions, corn, olives and cilantro to the potatoes. Place it in the refrigerator and serve it cold. To get the best results refrigerate till all the flavors blend.
