Brown bread

French cuisines are renowned for their exquisite delicacies and crisp presentation. There is an aura of perfection About Cooking in this country which is often distinguished for its cultural and social superiority. Cooking has also assumed an artistic form where the manner of cooking and dining is just as important as the quality of food and beverages. This sophisticated charm has been there since Middle ages. Colossal banquet parties were thrown to honor the dignitaries such as Napoleon Bonaparte. Haute cuisine, which is regarded as the national cuisine of France, defines the spirit of cooking. Luxuriant and sequential arrangement of food items coupled with proper table manners is the thematic characteristic of haute cuisine or classic cuisine.

Many hotels and restaurants were set up as the popularity of haute cuisine increased. French Vegetarian Dishes basically fall under a different culinary school named nouvelle cuisine. While in haute cuisine the emphasis is given more on the heavier and rich dishes, nouvelle cuisine is associated with lighter and freshly cooked vegetables. The usage of sauce or spices is kept to a minimum level and focus is given more on presentation. Brown bread is one of the delicious vegetarian dishes in France and Ireland. The main ingredients of Brown bread comprise of whole grain flour, primarily wheat or rye. Molasses or coffee is also added to the preparation of Brown bread to give it a dark look.

Preparation of traditional Brown bread does not take a lot of doing. The ingredients required to make a Brown bread include brown wholemeal flour, plain (white) flour, salt, baking soda, olive oil and buttermilk. The Brown bread recipe is given below:



The baking soda and and the plain flour are sifted through a sieve into a bowl.

The wholemeal flour and salt are added and stirred well.

The olive oil and buttermilk are taken in a container and mixed well with a wooden spoon. The mixture is soaked for 2 minutes.

A bread loaf tin is greased so that the bread comes out easily once its baked. The batter is then poured in the tin and is placed in a preheated oven precisely at 180 degree Celsius.
